Jay Kemp's Bio
Jay Kemp, an Arizona resident from 1952 to the present, is actively involved in visual arts. This includes thirty-two years in Television Production.
His sculptured works are in metal, bronze, and wood. In painting, he prefers working in Oils, Acrylics, mixed media collage layering.
The ensuing years saw four one man and numerous two and three man shows with participation in over one hundred and thirty juried gallery group shows. Over the years his works have been shown by twenty-five galleries. His paintings and sculptures can be found in private collections in Arizona, California, Oregon. Colorado, New York, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, Utah, and Santa Fe, New Mexico. Also Germany, England and Canada.
Jay’s formal art training was with the Kachina School of Art, San Diego Jr. College, and Phoenix Jr. College. His painting and sculpture styles and techniques were self taught. Jay is an active juried member of the Arizona Artist Guild and the Payson Art League.
PAL show 94, First place Sculpture. In 1996, PAL show, won the Payson Mayor’s
award for oils. The Juror’s Award for oils in the January 1996 Arizona Artist Guild show. (Juror Justine Mantor Clarysse.) Juried onto Glendale Arts Council 96 and 97 shows. October 97 PAL show, the Award of Excellence. (oil) Juried by Bill Arndt. The Gila County Fair, first place in Oil, Best of Show, acrylic.
